Ayushman Bharat Yojana (ABY), popularly known as ModiCare (PM-JAY), is the world’s largest health insurance scheme ( National Health Protection Scheme ).

The Govt health insurance of India- Ayushman Bharat (National Health Protection Scheme) AB-NHPM is a comprehensive initiative to help create a New India in 2022. This will set an example in the field of health in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech on 15 August 2018 announced the launch of Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Scheme (AB-NHPS). It was to be implemented nationwide from 25 September 2018 on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay. But this yojana has been launched in Ranchi (Capital of Jharkhand) on 23 September 2018 by PM Modi. And the name of the scheme was changed to PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY).

About Ayushman Bharat

The scheme consists of two major elements: – One, the National Health Protection Scheme and the Second, the welfare center.

National Health Protection Scheme – which has now been transformed into Ayushman Bharat Scheme, more than 10 crores (one hundred million) families of the country will be benefited under this ambitious scheme of the Central Government. Covering about 50 crore beneficiaries. It provides coverage for hospital care at the secondary and tertiary levels for every family, worth Rs 5 lakh per year.

The welfare center – The following services provided at the Health and Wellness Center are also covered under the scheme: eg, pregnancy care and maternal health services, newborn and child health services, child health, chronic infectious diseases, non-infectious diseases, mental illness Management, dental care, emergency medicine for the elderly, etc.

American industrialist Bill Gates has also praised the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Who Will Get The Benefits Of Ayushman Bharat

According to the various government websites, here is a look at Who will get the benefit of Ayushman Bharat.

The PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) OR Ayushman Bharat scheme will reduce the financial problems of poor and vulnerable families, improve the present condition of the poor and provide them good medical facilities in the form of health insurance. Ayushman Bharat will benefit only those people who have been included in the deprived category according to the Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011. The main aim to provide insurance cover to economically backward people in rural and urban areas.

In addition, more women and children are to be included in the scheme. There is no limit on the age and size of the families.

Rural Area Categories

Families who live in mud-roofed houses, deprived rural families; There is no adult member between the ages of 16 and 59; Female head family; Families where a disabled member is born and no competent adult member;Landless families derive the bulk of their income from manual casual labor; Tribal groups; bonded labor; Manuel Scavenger Families Surviving on Alms.

Urban Area Categories

For urban areas, 11 defined business categories can avail of the scheme.

  • Beggars in urban areas, Ragpicker, Cloth-picker.
  • Street vendor-cobbler, hawker, other service providers working on the streets.
  • Construction workers- plumbers, masons, workers, painters, welders security guards, porter.
  • Head-load workers- Sweeper, Sanitation worker, Malice.
  • Home-based workers- artisans, handicraft workers, tailors.
  • Transport worker- driver, conductor, a helper to drivers and conductors, cart-puller, rickshaw puller, assistants for conductors, and choppers.
  • Shopworkers- assistants, peons in small establishments, assistants, distribution assistants, attendants, waiters;
  • Electrician, mechanic, assembler, repair worker, washerman, watchman. (ETW)

Apart from this, the objective of this scheme is to overcome the shortcomings of the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). That is, the beneficiaries of the RSBY scheme are also included.

These families will be of poor and vulnerable populations based on the Social-Economic Caste Census (SECC) database. More than 10 crores (one hundred million) families of the country will benefit under this ambitious scheme of the central government.

According to the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data – 8.03 crore households in rural areas and 2.33 crore people in urban areas are entitled to these schemes, i.e. it will cover around 50 crore people.

Top Benefits of Ayushman Bharat

The Ayushman Bharat now also known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). This PMJAY one of the world’s largest health insurance schemes.

  • About 10 crore selected families will get the benefit of this scheme. These families have been selected on the basis of lack of facilities and the level of poverty.
  • Under this scheme, 5 lakh rupees will be provided as health insurance to the selected families every year. This amount is not received in cash, rather the disease will be treated free of cost in a private hospital.
  • If the disease is chronic, then it can be treated under Ayushman Bharat scheme, expenses will be covered before and after hospitalization.
  • Women, children, and senior citizens have been specially included in ABY. There is no binding of family size and age to join Ayushman Bharat Yojana (ABY).
  • If you are illiterate or less educated. So there is no need to panic, no paperwork need here. This is a paperless scheme.
  • 1350 medical packages are being covered under this scheme, in which things like surgery, medical, drug expenses, diagnostic, Coronary bypass, knee replacement, and stunt insertion will be available for free.
  • Under this scheme, individuals get their treatment done in both government and private hospitals.
  • If there is any problem then you have the facility to call the helpline number 14555 which is running 24 hours.
  • Each experienced hospital will have an Ayushman Mitra. He will help the patient and help him get the facilities of the hospital.

How To Apply Ayushman Bharat Scheme

There is no formal process to take advantage of Ayushman Bharat or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). and you do not have to make any application or registration to avail of this scheme.

You can only know from your mobile number that you will not get the benefit of the Ayushman scheme.

How To registered in Ayushman Bharat

  • Visit Ayushman Bharat Website  and click on ‘Am I Eligible’
  • Now, enter your mobile number and the CAPTCHA code.
  • You get an OTP on your mobile number.
  • Enter your OTP.
  • After that, select your state and search by name/Mobile number/ ration card number/ HHD number.

In this way, you can see if you are eligible to be a beneficiary of PMJAY.

Those who will have the National Health Insurance Scheme card by 28 February 2018 can also avail of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

If someone gets private health insurance, then no such benefit is available.

States like Delhi, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, and Orissa are excluding from the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
