How This Weight Gain Calculator Works
This calculator estimates your BMR with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, adjusts it by your activity level to estimate maintenance calories, then adds a controlled calorie surplus.
For most people, a smaller surplus is easier to sustain and may reduce unnecessary fat gain. Track your body weight, appetite, strength, and digestion for two to three weeks, then adjust calories if your progress is too slow or too fast.
Weight Gain Calorie Formula
Daily Target:
BMR x activity multiplier + calorie surplus
The macro guidance uses protein near 1.8 g/kg body weight, fat near 25% of calories, and the remaining calories from carbohydrates.
Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly should I gain weight?
A steady pace of about 0.25 to 0.5 kg per week is practical for many people. Faster gain may be useful in some cases but can increase fat gain.
What foods help with healthy weight gain?
Use calorie-dense whole foods such as rice, oats, potatoes, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds, dairy, olive oil, avocado, eggs, fish, and lean meats if they fit your diet.
Can yoga help with weight gain?
Yoga and pranayama support appetite regulation, digestion, recovery, and stress balance. For muscle gain, combine them with resistance training and adequate protein.
Should underweight people use this calculator?
It can provide an educational estimate, but people who are underweight or losing weight unintentionally should speak with a healthcare professional.
