Jamalgota

Jamalgota (Croton Tiglium) is a medicinal plant which in Ayurveda eliminates many problems like baldness, Constipation, dyspepsia, dysentery, gastrointestinal disorders, intestinal inflammation, arthritis, peptic ulcer, intestinal pain, headache, and pimples. It is well-known for its toxicity. Its seeds are mainly used as detritus. Hence its name is purgation croton. It is known as Jamalgota in Hindi.

Jamalgota is in the form of seeds or grains and is very like castor seeds. It is pungent in taste and dry in quality, heavy and sharp. Jamalgota’s temperature is warm.

Seeds, leaves, bark, and root of C. tiglium are used in traditional medicine to ease various illnesses. The seeds are poisonous and contain croton. Its seeds along with cow’s milk are used to treat constipation after the detoxification process. Study

Its seeds are used in medicine in Ayurveda. The seeds have a stable oil. Which is used in many Ayurvedic medicines. Apart from this, tigalic acid, oleic, penitic acid extracting element and an explosive element are found in it.

Jamalgota Properties and Uses

The seeds and oil of Jayapala are acrid, bitter, thermogenic, emollient,
drastic purgative, digestive carminative, antihelminthic, anti-inflammatory, vermifuge. detergent, diaphoretic, expectorant, vesicant
irritant, and rubefacient and are useful in abdominal disorder.

Crotonoside (glycoside), the oil contains powerful vesicating resin composed of croton oleic acid, methyl crotonic acid, and several other fatty acids.

The toxalbumin present in the seeds is a toxic protein that disables
ribosomes and thereby inhibits protein synthesis. It is antigenic in nature,
it agglutinates red cells and causes hemolysis and cell destruction.

The ethanolic extracts of stem or seed extracts of C. tiglium exhibited strong antidermatophytic activities. A topical application of the ethanolic extracts of Jamalgota on treating skin fungal infection and formulation of the extracts into shampoo or soap may be practical and scientifically sounding.

Many benefits related to the health of Jamalgota have been described in Ayurveda by using it to cure baldness, intestinal inflammation, jaundice, skin disease, constipation, headache, and intestinal problems. So let’s know some beneficial benefits of Jamalgota –

Headache

Grind Jamalgota seeds, make a paste and apply it on the forehead. This causes headache to relieve. Keep in mind that after wiping the paste of Jamalgota seed after some time, apply ghee/ oil or else it will start burning.

Constipation

If the patient suffering from constipation is given Jamalgota carefully, he gets a lot of rest. For this, you have to give Jamalgota seed powder regularly. It is also possible to treat severe constipation.

Erectile Dysfunction

One of the various benefits of Jamalgota is its benefit in erectile dysfunction. Applying a paste of its seed in the pineal area provides relief in erectile dysfunction.

Abscess

Grind the Jamalgota seeds. Then make a paste by adding a little water to this paste. Apply this paste on boils and pimples. It cures boils and wounds. Some people add turmeric (curcuma longa) powder to the paste for antiseptic purposes.

Bee Sting

If there is a sting of an insect or a bee, then grind the fruit and apply it on the stinged place, for this you will get relief.

Arthritis

Jamalgota is also used to treat joint pain, also called arthritis. The oil extracted from the seeds of Jamalgota provides relief from inflammation, lung diseases, arthritis, and chronic bronchitis, etc.

Cold and cough

The use of the juice of Jamalgota seeds is very beneficial in diseases of phlegm.

Hemorrhoids or piles

It is beneficial to use the mixture made using Jamalgota externally in the problem of piles. Make a paste by mixing the fine powder in the buttermilk, now apply this paste on piles in a deaf form. This paste is useful only when there is a problem with piles.

Impotence

Massage the penis with Jamalgota oil. It ends impotence and increases copulation

Seed Purification or Detoxification (shodhana)

According to Ayurveda, it is very important to Purification or Detoxification Jamalgota seeds before using them. In the process of purification, the harmful effects of Jamalgota seeds are minimized. The purification method is performed to reduce seed toxicity. Its seeds are taken and cut into two parts, then the seeds are boiled in cow’s milk for about 3 hours. Heat the milk until it stops lubricating when it is finished lubricating, then understand that it has become pure. The seeds are then placed in an earthen plate and dried in sunlight. If its seeds are used without treatment, it can also cause terrible vomiting and diarrhea, that is why in Ayurveda these seeds are used only by purification.

Jamalgota Dosage

Its effect is hot, so it is beneficial in removing the problem of bile and phlegm. Generally, 5 to 25 milligrams of treated seeds are used for the treatment of any disease. In addition, a single drop of oil of Jamalgota seeds is useful for internal treatment.

Jamalgota Side Effects

Jamalaghota is an intense detritus. Excess intake of this can cause intense purgation and vomiting. Therefore, it should always be used under the supervision of your personal physician.

  • Pay attention, one should always use pure Jamalaghote, that is, use it only after purifying it.
  • Its powder should also be intake in a proper quantity. Excess intake can cause stomach irritation, gastric and intestinal side effects.
  • If 10 drops of its oil are consumed together, it proves poisonous and can lead to death.
  • Consumption in excess of the prescribed quantity causes pain and blood mixed diarrhea due to inflammation in the stomach and intestines.
  • The oil can cause blisters on the skin when applied in high concentrations. This causes nausea and vomiting.
  • Oral intake of croton root may be unsafe.
  • Pregnant women and breastfeeding women should avoid its use.
  • It is not useful before and after surgery.
  • Pure seeds and their oil should be used for internal treatment.
