Surya Namaskar Mantra

Surya Namaskar is the best among Yogasanas. This practice alone is able to benefit the practitioner from the complete yoga exercise. The practitioner’s body becomes healthy by its practice. There are 12 states of Surya Namaskar. There is Surya Namaskar Mantra for every posture and the practitioner gets more benefit from the mental and verbal chanting of this mantra.

Surya Namaskar Mantra is the most amazing mantra (Surya Namaskar Shloka) spoken before Lord Aditya /Lord Surya(The Sun) while doing Suryanamaskar Yoga.

What does Surya Namaskar Mantras mean?

Twelve mantras are uttered in Surya Namaskar. Different names of the Sun are taken in each mantra. Every mantra has the same simple meaning – (my) salutations to the sun. These twelve mantras are uplifted in the twelve positions or stages of Surya Namaskar. First of all, pray for sun and lastly say a verse saying the importance of it –

Surya Namaskar is practiced with twelve mantras, which are as follows-

1. Mantra: Om Mitraya Namaha

Meaning: One who is a friend to all.

Breathing: – Easy.

The significance of the Asana:

  • Keeps the nervous system clean.
  • Pranamasana helps to balance the body system.
  •  The mind is concentrated and peaceful.

2. Mantra: Om Ravaye Namaha

Meaning: The shining one, the radiant one.

Breathing: While raising the arms, take a long breath.

The significance of the Asana:

  • Strength in arms and shoulders.
  • Expands the chest.
  • Reduces abdominal fat and improves digestion.

3.Mantra: Om Suryaya Namaha

Meaning: The dispeller of darkness, responsible for generating activity.

Breathing: Breathing (exhaling) while bending towards the front. In the final position, inside the stomach to remove as much breath as possible.

4.Mantra: Om Bhanave Namaha

Meaning: One who illuminates or the bright one.

Breathing: Breathing left leg while moving back.

5.Mantra: Om Khagaya Namaha

Meaning: One who is all-pervading, one who moves through the sky.

Breathing: While straightening the right leg and lifting the body, release the breath.

6. Mantra: Om Pushne Namaha

Meaning: Giver of nourishment and fulfillment.

Breathing: Keep the breath outside.

7.Mantra: Om Hiranya Garbhaya Namaha

Meaning: One who has a golden colored brilliance.

Breathing: Take the breath while arching the waist.

8.Mantra: Om Marichaye Namaha

Meaning: Giver of light with infinite rays.

Breathing: Release the breath while lifting the body.

9.Mantra: Om Adityaya Namaha

Meaning: The son of Aditi, the cosmic divine mother.

Breathing: Breathing left leg while moving back.

10 Mantra: Om Savitre Namaha

Meaning: One who is responsible for life.

Breathing: Breathing (exhaling) while bending towards the front. In the final position, inside the stomach to remove as much breath as possible.

Meaning: One who is worthy of praise and glory.

12 Mantra: Om Bhaskaraya Namaha

Meaning: Giver of wisdom and cosmic illumination.
