Currently, there are more than 300 types of honey, which are sold in the market. They are quite different from each other in taste and the role of health and nutritional benefits is also different with each one.

What is honey?

Honey is a sweet golden liquid comes from the nectar of the flower. Honey Bee gives us honey they make a hive in which collect nectar from various flowers. Fructose is found mainly in honey. Apart from this, carbohydrates, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and amino acids are also found in it. One teaspoon (21 grams) of honey contains about 64 calories and 17 grams of sugar (fructose, glucose, sucrose, and maltose). Honey does not contain fat, fiber and protein at all.

Its teats and color depending on the kind of flower. it has many types, each type of honey depends on the variety of flower nature the bees gather. Mainly honey has a darker and lighter golden color. according to US agriculture divide honey into 300 categories.

Broadly, honey can be classified into two types. One is raw honey, It is known as comb honey because It is extracted from the comb before it is sent for refinement. The other is processed honey. Honey is pasteurized to get rid of bacterial or fungal contamination. The level of processing results in the loss of vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. In addition, raw honey is tastier than processed honey.

In fact, there are more than 300 unique types of honey available in the United States. Here’s an account on some of the types of honey varieties. Description of 14 types of honey which can be most readily known floral sources include the following:

Alfalfa

Alfalfa is a perennial flowering plant in the legume family Fabaceae.  It has flakes of small blue blossoms and purple flowers. And there is a fragrant flower with a mild taste and the syrup obtained from these flowers is called alfalfa or lucerne honey. It is produced extensively in Canada and the United States.

Blueberry

Blueberries, Scientific Name: Vaccinium spp.are perennial flowers. blueberry honey is extracted by bees from the beautiful tiny flowers of blueberry bushes. It’s color from light amber to dark amber, thick & strong and sweet with earthy components.

Blueberry honey has a very strong antioxidant and antimicrobial, anthocyanins, polyphenols, and flavonoid power. It is rich in vitamin E.

Buckwheat

It is the strongest and deepest of the honey varieties. This honey is highly nutritious honey that collected from the fresh white flower of the grain. It is not as sweet as traditional honey. Its color can range from dark purple to black. But due to the process, its color turns light red.

It is rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. It also has Fatty acids and Amino acids, that’s why Buckwheat is primary in the honey keto diet. This also promotes healing in the body. There are many types of honey, but Manuka honey is considered the best honey in the world. Bees make this honey by collecting pollen from the Manuka tree in New Zealand. It is very thin and has a light golden color.

This honey is slightly expensive because of its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. But it contains plenty of amino acids, vitamin B (B6, thymine, niacin, riboflavin) calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc.

Avocado

Avocado (Persea Americana) is a tree and also known as a fruit. There are many species of avocado. Honey collects pollen from the male flowers of a cultivator. It is dark honey with butter flavor. But it tastes nothing like its fruit, avocado.

Orange Blossom Honey

Orange Blossom Honey is light amber honey that comes from sunny Central Florida. The honey bees collect the fragrant nectar from the orange blossoms. The unique feature is that this honey contains caffeine.

Tupelo Honey

the most premium kinds of honey ever produced in the Southeastern U.S. swamps. It is usually light golden or amber in color. Tupelo Honey is the only honey that will not crystallize. The production of Tupelo honey is not easy, Because the trees only bloom for three to four weeks.

This honey is unlike most honey, with high fructose (44% approx), low glucose (30% approx) ratio. Tupelo honey is very rich in nutrients including Vitamin C, calcium, thiamine, potassium, and iron.

Especially It has Natural sugar that provides energy to the body. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects that help to relieve minor conditions such as sore throat and mild coughing.

Iron Bark

Iron honey is deep and rich while still being fruity. Ironbark is the amber color of honey. It is a favorite flavor enhancer in honey baking.

Wildflower Honey

The honeybees collect nectar from a local source of wildflowers. It also is known as “multi-floral” honey. Its color can vary from very light to dark.

It is often used to describe honey varieties from diverse and undefined flower sources. But it should not be used for health or skin improvement. The reason for this may be because it is heavily processed.

Neem Honey

Neem honey comes from the nectar source of Neem flowers. It is also known as Margosa Tree. Its taste is slightly bitter.

Eucalyptus Honey

Sage Honey
