These include eliminating certain foods from the diet that contain essential nutrients that the body needs to maintain good health.

Here are the pros and cons of some fad diets that actually work.

What are fad diets?

There is no single definition of what a fad diet is. It promises an assortment of short-term changes, and includes a variety of diets with different perspectives and evidence bases.

Weight loss plans and fad diets that have withstood the test of time are the plans sold as the fastest and most successful way to lose weight.

They include high fat, low carbohydrate or high protein and raw food diets. However, they tend to miss out on nutritionally important sources like grains and some essential ingredients like lectins that your body needs to maintain good health.

Fad diets allow certain foods under special circumstances. These types of diet plans typically lack nutrients, such as carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, and protective phytochemicals. If you are not getting enough of these essential nutrients, then you can cause serious health problems.

Some fad diets rely exclusively on foods such as cabbage or watermelon, which do not meet the deficiency of all the essential nutrients in the body.

Often endorsed by celebrities or widely publicized through the media, the use of fad diets for weight loss. But rapid weight loss is also not sustainable and the risk of gaining more weight increases than before when you start eating normally again. Therefore, it is necessary that for weight loss, not a fad diet, but a balanced diet plan containing complete nutrients and promoting physical activities.

Atkins diet

The Atkins diet is a popular low-carbohydrate eating plan. It restricts carbs while emphasizing on proteins and fats. The purpose of the diet is to change your eating habits to lose weight and not allow it to increase.

Created in 1970 by cardiologist Robert Atkins. Which limits carbs to 15 to 20 grams per day, while calling for an unlimited amount of protein and fat.

When you are following the Atkins diet, you should consume meat (beef, pork, chicken, lamb), fatty fish (salmon and sardines etc.), eggs, low-carb vegetables such as kale, spinach, broccoli.

Apart from this, the intake of full-fat dairy products (butter, cheese, cream etc.), nuts and seeds (almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds) and healthy fat sources (coconut oil, avocado oil etc.) should be increased.

Vegan Diet

Veganism is a vegetarian diet in which people do not eat animals or their products. These people do not include any dairy products like milk, eggs, meat, cheese or butter in their diet. Only vegetables are included in this diet.

People adopt such diet for morality and environment. They try to maintain the balance of nature by not using any animal products. Some people do this because they do not want to kill an animal or steal the milk of a calf for their selfish reasons.

A vegan diet includes legumes, grains, and seeds. Also includes fruits, vegetables and everything that is produced by plants such as nuts and dry fruits. People on a vegetarian diet try to include all types of foods in their diet and include the maximum amount of protein and nutrients in order to stay healthy.

Long studies have shown that a vegetarian diet or a vegetarian diet based on whole foods can lead to weight loss.

Ketogenic Diet

The ketogenic diet not only promotes the loss of weight and body fat, but may also reduce disease risk factors for obesity.

When the body uses ketones as a source of energy, it is called a keto diet in short. In this diet you do not eat carbohydrates and you take a lot of fats.

With ketogenic diets providing less than 30 grams of carbs per day, there’s no doubt that it can be very effective for losing weight.

Paleo Diet

Paleo diet plan not only keeps you healthy for a long time but also helps in losing weight fast.

The purpose of the Paleo diet plan is to return to the foods eaten by humans and hunter-gatherers in ancient times.

Other names for the Paleo diet plan include the Paleolithic diet, the Stone Age diet, the hunter-gatherer diet, and the caveman diet.

In this diet, you can avoid eating processed junk food, which is responsible for health problems.

You can include unprocessed foods with whole fruits in this diet. Along with vegetables, fruits and dry fruits can also be eaten while doing this diet.

The Zone Diet

The Zone Diet was created by Dr. Barry Sears in the mid-1990s. It is classified as a fad diet, which recommends 40 percent carbs, 30 percent protein and 30 percent fat intake throughout the day, which contains lean protein, monounsaturated fat and has a very low glycemic index.

One way the Zone Diet works is to be effective in reducing obesity, inflammation and signs of aging.

Research suggests that it is classified as a fad diets to help you lose weight and reduce inflammation.


Fad diets are not natural it encourages rapid weight loss through unsafe and unrealistic methods. However, many so-called fad diets do not live up to their claims.

Also, fad diets often exclude physical activity from the program which is necessary in response to weight loss.
