Tea tree oil (TTO), a volatile essential oil derived mainly from the Australian-origin plant Melaleuca alternifolia. This plant is known as tea, but it should not be confused with the plant which is produced from the leaves used to make black, green or clove tea.

The scientific name of the tea tree is Melaleuca alternifolia. Tea tree oil is obtained from the leaves of this plant. Antimicrobial and other medicinal properties have become increasingly popular in aromatherapy.
