Home Remedies for Ringworm: Natural Ways to Treat Fungal Skin Infection

Ringworm is a very common fungal infection. Despite its name, it is not caused by a worm or any kind of live parasite. It is caused by a fungus called tinea, which spreads very rapidly through skin-to-skin contact. It is also medically known as dermatophytosis.

Garlic Paste

Garlic Paste is considered helpful to get rid of ringworm. Although there are no studies that examine the effects of garlic on ringworm, it has been used by people with clear benefits. Many other types of fungus-like,

Trichophyton
Cryptococcus

For this, make a paste by grinding garlic and adding olive oil or coconut oil to it. Apply a thin layer of the prepared paste on the affected area. Leave it for two hours and wash it off with water. Doing this twice a day will give you relief. If you notice symptoms such as burning, swelling, or redness of the skin after applying this paste, remove it immediately and do not reapply.

 Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is rich in anti-fungal properties. It has properties that destroy other fungal infections including Candida. It is also one of the best remedies for ringworm also.

To cure ringworm with apple cider vinegar, dip a cotton swab in vinegar and apply it on the affected area. Repeat this 3 times a day. Vinegar is not to be diluted/diluted with water or anything else.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil has been used for years in many bacterial and fungal skin infections and is still used today as an antifungal and antibacterial. This oil is a good remedy for fungal skin infections.

Mix tea tree oil with essential oil and a cold-pressed carrier oil and apply it on the skin thrice a day. Avoid using it with sensitive skin.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera extract has long been used as a natural remedy for both bacterial and fungal infections. The Aloe vera gel can soothe the symptoms of itching, swelling, and discomfort, and ringworm is no exception.

Break it and apply it directly on the ringworm, you will get coolness, if possible, keep it overnight. Regular consumption of aloe vera and apply it on the affected area provides great relief from ringworm and itching.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil also has anti-fungal properties, which can protect against ringworm.

A study says that coconut oil forms a protective layer on the infected area. Due to this, foreign bacteria cannot grow on it and the affected area can heal quickly. Research published on the NCBI website also mentions that virgin coconut oil can act effectively on the fungus. On this basis, it can be said that coconut oil can actively work in the treatment of herpes scabies.

Lemongrass oil

Lemongrass oil extract and Lemongrass tea both have antifungal properties that can be more effective to cure fungal skin infections like ringworm.

Put a few drops of Lemongrass oil on the ringworm area, then leave it like that. This process can be repeated two to three times daily.

Oregano oil

Oregano oil is prepared from wild oregano. It contains two strong antifungals called thymol and carvacrol. According to research, oregano oil inhibits and treats fungal skin infections, including athlete’s foot and ringworm.

For this, mixing it with a carrier oil like olive or coconut oil should be applied thrice a day on the affected area.

Powdered licorice

Licorice extracts are used as an herb in the treatment of ringworm and as a medicine to treat some other fungal infections. Licorice has strong antimicrobial properties, which are very beneficial for the skin and for warding off fungal infections.

Mix 3 tablespoons of licorice powder in a cup of water and stir until it becomes a paste. When the mixture is cool enough to touch, you can apply the paste on your affected skin and see the results.

Prevention Tips for Ringworm

Along with the home remedies for ringworm mentioned above, it can also be prevented from spreading by adopting preventive measures. For this reason, below we are giving some tips to prevent ringworm:

  • Keep skin dry and clean.
  • Wear shoes that allow air to pass through.
  • Don’t use someone else’s towel or anything like clothes.
  • Do not go to the swimming pool area or other public places without slippers.
  • Always wash your hands after playing with pets.
  • Always take a shower after playing a sport.
  • Change your underwear and socks daily.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before applying for cream or medicine.
